2007 UCI Carousel Volkswagen Jingle Cross Rock

This past weekend I went to Iowa for Jingle Cross. I was pretty excited seeing that I had a blast at this race last year. Friday afternoon we headed over to the Johnson County Fairgrounds which is where the race was being held. Sarah and I rode around for awhile just to see how the course changed from last year. Personally, I thought that the courses this year where much more challenging. After we finished riding we headed back to the hotel to pick up our numbers. Jingle Cross Rock Day 1: I raced the junior race for mainly two reasons....money and warm-up. In the junior race they cut off some of the course so it wasn't as hard. Otherwise there was a lot of awesome technical parts. One of my favorite sections was this barn that was full of sand that we rode through. They even had The Grinch music playing in the barn for a extra touch. Right after the junior race was the Intermediate race. Since it was a UCI event I was to young to do the Elite race.{I miss the cutoff by one day..props to the birthday} Therefore, John just told me that I could race Intermediate. The race was 45 minutes. Right from the start it went pretty fast. For the first half lap I think I was in 4th. Once we got to the long/somewhat steep climb I worked my way into second. I'm not the best at describing courses. After that I stayed there for the rest of the race. I ended up finshing second, while Amanda Miller won the race respectively. Jingle Cross Rock Day 2: Again, I raced the junior race again this time the course being a little bit harder. Today we got to run up the hill we came down in yesterdays races. I actually liked running up it better than riding down. :] For most of the junior race I just tried to figure out the best way to get up the run up. In the Intermediate race I wanted to try and start out faster. This did not exactly happen seeing I couldn't get clipped in...so again I was in fourth until the run up where I got back into second. I was much closer to Amanda today. At one point in the race I was hearing I was about five seconds away from her. About five laps in I really couldn't go much faster so I ended up second again. Overall the weekend was pretty awesome. It was a lot of fun watching the Elite Mens and Womens races.

Next weekend is the State Cross race which I am looking forward too.

Ohh and I got a free jingle cross bell that Todd Wells and Chris Horner signed for me....that's always a fun thing.
